YOUR INFRARED PHOTOGRAPHY LAUNCHPAD
4-Classes:
October 3rd - 24th
Workshop Series Title: Your Infrared Photography Launchpad
Instructor: Jim Peterson
Audience: Photographers Who Wish To Get Started in, or Expand Their Knowledge and Skills in, Digital Infrared Photography.
Prerequisites: Students should have a basic knowledge of digital photography, including how to use a digital camera and some experience with processing digital images. The image processing session will assume that the student can use Adobe Camera Raw or Lightroom to process raw images.
Description: Photography at infrared (IR) wavelengths (invisible to the naked eye) was invented over a century ago, and has been used ever since for a wide range of technical and artistic purposes. With the proliferation of digital cameras in the last two decades, the possibilities for using IR in artistic photography have multiplied enormously, and a remarkable variety of results are possible.
The objective of this workshop series is to provide you an in-depth, hands-on learning experience that starts with the fundamentals of IR Photography and takes you well past the beginner stage to the point where you can confidently capture, process, and share digital infrared images that express your own, unique artistic vision.
The series includes four sessions:
1. (2 Hours) Introduction to Digital Infrared Photography Plus Choosing and Using Your Digital
Infrared Camera, Including Getting A Camera Converted to IR
2. (2 Hours) Processing Digital Infrared Images to Get The Results You Want
3. (3 Hours) Digital Infrared Field Workshop in Jerome, Arizona, with Coaching and Assistance from
The Instructor
4. (2 Hours) Image Sharing, Review, and Feedback (Gentle and Constructive, Of Course!)
Sessions 1, 2, and 4 are taught as webinars because of the coronavirus pandemic. Session 3 is an in- person, social distancing gathering in Jerome, Arizona with face masks and other precautions required. You can register for each session separately, but to get the most benefit from the series it is recommended that you attend all four.
Distant students who are unable to attend session 3 may instead shoot IR photos independently in their own locale and still register for session 4, where, like all other students, they will be able to share and discuss their images and receive helpful feedback.
